Re: [Salon] Setting the record straight: Quincy's position on Ukraine War

Kelley,

In my view, the statement is adequate, but no more than that. NATO expansion was a crucial factor leading to this war. That point should have mentioned explicitly. I also have a problem with a full-throated endorsement of U.S. aid to Ukraine. Humanitarian and diplomatic assistance, yes. Military aid, though, is imprudent and a worrisome way to entangle the U.S. as a belligerent. Joe has always been great on North Korea—and on arms control issues generally.  On most other issues though, he’s been bland establishment, so I guess we shouldn’t be shocked about his response to the war. The cheap shot about Q being morally bankrupt, though, was disappointing.

All -- You might have seen the sturm un drang over Joe Cirincione leaving QI as a non-resident fellow because of our "morally bankrupt" approach to the war. This follows another high profile Democrat defection (Gen. Paul Eaton). This is our response, our actual position on the war, without the hyperbolic filter: https://quincyinst.org/press/quincy-institutes-position-on-russia-ukraine/

all the best,
